So far in......MBBS 3rd Year: Semester 2 (Finally.... ON-CAMPUS!)
Can you believe it?
That it took us nearly 3 years to get on campus?
I am sure most of us at one point debated if it was worth continuing this medical degree due to the uncertainty of waiting to get a ✨GRAND RETURN NOTICE✨ for Face-to-face learning! If you ask me personally, I had my doubts and even looked at the possibilities to transfer, so I do not have to worry about having almost complete my medical degree entire ONLINE!. But PTL 🙏 that China has opened up, and we are finally experiencing the TRUE medical student life.
It has now been 6 out of the 16 weeks we will have this semester, and without further ado.... I think its high time I update my blog!
Life on Campus:
1. Dorm Life:
It was a blessing when upon arriving on campus, I was welcomed by friends I have been talking to online for the past 3 years! To top it off, BOY am i so glad to be living in a SINGLE room on campus. Tho albeit small, it beats my expectation of living in a space as small as 'a cupboard under the staircase.' I am also thoroughly glad that the dorm i reside in, have some of the BEST and CLOSEST people living here! Which makes living here comfortable! We have such a tight relationship that we have an dedicated a wechat sticker album of us! 😏
2. The Semester
This semester in ALL Honesty....
Is
Not
GIVING
GIVING
We have strange assignments and quizzes that occasionally comes sneaking up on us! The amount of times I have left Medical Chinese Homework to the last minute.... (side note, its highkey procrastination 😛). Workload wise, the report writing... I STILL ABSOLUTELY DESPISE IT!
I am adamant that report writing is an absolute waste of time, especially when you have Pharmacology, Medical Chinese 2 and Internal Med to learn and study for. The content wise for these three= HECTIC
As always, you will ALWAYS have to be prepared to learn EVERYTHING yourself! Find your own ideal resources and work your way to understanding them... again BY YOURSELF.
3. Responsibilities of a MEDICAL STUDENT
Let me tell you that this semester, you will finally feel and embrace yourself... AS A MEDICAL STUDENT. You will get hospital rotations in Internal Med approximately every 3 weeks, you will be able to put on that white coat and roam the hospital and HECK YEAH! You can finally get that STETHOSCOPE, the instrument of dreams for EVERY MEDICAL STUDENT!
The first time you don your white coat and sling that stethoscope around your neck, you will experience a wave of emotions! (Or is it Imposter Syndrome..? Hmmm... 😆😂). As much as it makes you feel good about yourself, we too have a heavy sense of responsibility. Just like Uncle Ben from Spiderman had said....
First things first. PATIENT CONSENT and CONFIDENTIALITY. This seems to be neglectfully emphasized on, due to the HEAVY ASSUMPTION that each student should have been acutely aware of this themselves. It really is simple and is basic COMMON SENSE, where we should always ASK for permissions from patients for everything, INCLUDING TAKING PICTURES OR VIDEOS. In simple terms take into consideration what is OKAY and NOT OKAY to post.
A snarky 'what NOT to post guide on YOUR social media 101 '
- Patient's photograph which reveals their faces
- Patient's charts which reveals their PERSONAL DATA
- A video of a PATIENT
- An audio recording of the PATIENT interaction
That is all for my blog update!
More to come, AFTER the semester ends! Thanks for sticking around 😊
