I Bid you Farewell and Good Riddance, MBBS 2
Ending this term never felt like such a BIG relief!
Here's my speech to MBBS 2, Semester 2 .
To myself, for doing the endless assignments and submitting them on time
To myself, for having to drag the little amount of motivation I have for each passing week in the semester
To myself, for trying the utmost best to keep up-to date (and fail miserably) with lecture content [which obviously ended up with cramming for finals...]
To myself, for teaching myself ALL the content again (who actually listens to lectures for 3 hours... not me)
To myself one last time for being able to pull myself together on the numerous breakdowns and doubts I had to go through this semester.
If this was you, GIVE your self a pat on the back!
There's this concept stated in Dante's Inferno of Hell, where there is essentially NINE levels, to which one descends according to the devilish crimes committed.. Hell as he described, has concentric levels all of which represents a gradual increase of wickedness. Now imagine, like really... JUST imagine your semester at this university... If I had to pick a level out of NINE, well..... this felt like level 7 out of 9. (But hey D! why didn't you pick 9? To which i will explain myself further down below..)
Reasons why this semester was Hell Level 7:
1. Physiology
Albeit this subject being necessary and most important throughout your med school career, how we had done this course was ACTUAL hell. Imagine WEEKLY, there is some new shit that we have to either submit, present, or take an online assessment.. Sometimes, you will get ALL F***ing FOUR to do.
NOW, if this does not want to make you question your 'life choices" like WTF did i chose this degree? Well. π
Now what did we actually do?
- Individuals Tutorial Reports: We write according to the topic given, and Squeeze every info you can find into JUST 2 pages. Oh! do not forget referencing!
- Tutorial Group Presentation: So according to the group that you were given (but in our case, our entire batch had picked amongst our classes... we have to make a PPT according to the topic given, and then elect someone in our group to present. This was done every 2 weeks.
- Online Lab and Lab Reports: For the weeks we did not have a group presentation, We had this rubbish. Look, online learning for 2 years, and taking 'labs' online really is a joke. we aren't doing any experiments per se.. but we are watching the professor do it VIRTUALLY. ✨WOWWW✨. And after watching what he/she does, we are then tasked with writing a lab report with a set format and given questions to answer as part of the 'discussion' section. (at least it isn't as BAD as GPL...)
- Online Assessment: So on a MONTHLY basis, we have 'online tests' that we take, off camera on the topics that the professor had mentioned will be part of the assessment. Off camera, essentially being open-book, but some were just REALLY tricky. [especially those questions that are like WHICH one is INCORRECT/ WHICH one is CORRECT/ WHICH one is TRUE/ WHICH one is FALSE] π
- Seminar: This was the most pointless thing we had to do, and the timing that had chosen to do this was so bad as well. It was during the mid-term week π. The paper given, was more cell biology/ biochemistry than actual physiology. It was legit the biggest waste of time. Not to mention during the presentation, the Professor just wanted to rush through everyone cause 'he was on a time crunch.'
Overall... This was mainly the contributor of hell Level 7.
2. Psychology
You all watched Zootopia before? If you understand this image below, you understand my pain.
The lecture was *long pause*

*still long pause*

Well yeah that was the lecture. I thought the long pauses were due to my network connectivity issues. Hell, in a lecture I would be refreshing the video a couple of times before realizing it was not my internet, but just the way the professor spoke. π π . So after the first 2 lectures, you guessed it, I had it on as b/g noise to do assignments. WHY? well... this course had assignments too.
- Lecture Assignments and Case Study Assignments. So overall, you get 2 of these a week.
✨OMG YAY✨
But in reality, because I never listened after the numerous pauses one can take in a 3 hour lecture, I would be searching and googling the assignment content and finishing it DURING the lecture itself. Time is of essence, and i swear each time I had Psych class... I get out and its like a whole day had gone by.
3. Pathophysiology
Come on med students, You all know this!
When a Toddler starts developing developmental skills... what is the CORRECT order of progression?
I. Crawl
II. Run
III. Walk
Your choices are:
A. III, II, I
B. I, II, III
C. I, III, II
Answer: C (DUH!)
SO, did anyone realized when we took this course, we had TOTALLY skipped STEP 2? Like we were still in the progress of learning Physiology (yeah.. make sense) BUT we had not taken PATHOLOGY yet we are tossed into the deep end of PATHO-physiology. And what is superbly messed up is we are taking PATHOLOGY next semester.
Like we can memorize the content, we have all gotten massively good at memorizing shit for Med school. BUT hell, what is the damn point of memorizing when you can't understand. Like the worst lecture slides we had gotten from this course was the Ischemia/Reperfusion one... (Yes i accepted my decisions, when i decided that I will never understand this before finals, and OF COURSE it came out as a question in the finals π).
BUT OMG! Was there any assignments for this course? DING DING DING DING! You betcha!
We had weekly assignments for this as well! Only 3 times throughout the semester did we not had any (Shock, DIC, and a week before finals).
Look, do not get me wrong, I would had loved the extra time (if they gave us any.. to actually take my time to understand all the pathophysiology content). BUT our To-do list says otherwise, its like time DOES not exist for us. Hell, an hour before this finals i was prepared to write this:
- Define Shock: What I am Feeling doing this paper
- Define Respiratory Failure: What this paper is giving me
- Define Brain Dysfunction: Legit me, answering these questions
Okay So overall, you can see why this semester is Hell Level 7. BUT to further emphasize it. Assignments.. Assignments everywhere, every f**king week. (The Tron notification be popping off weekly tooπ)
Remember I had said above I would explained myself, WHY i did not give this semester HELL level 9? Well just look at our timetable for the UPCOMING year (MBBS 3, Semester 1) π©π©π©
Forget about TIME doesn't exist, they forgot we needed basic human rights!! Where and when do i Sleep, Breathe and Function?? This upcoming semester, seniors had told me that it was their worst.... However,
Dear Seniors, you said it was Hell for you. Jokes on you, the school decided to make HSK comprehension compulsory for our batch, and had added it in to the upcoming semester. All you folks, imagine it was " HELL" before the addition of HSK, now with the addition of HSK???
First of all, which one of us in our batch, HURT the course directors when they made this decision?
(IF i find out who hurt them... I am coming for you!π)
