Week 5 and 6: Rollercoaster Ride
Medical School is a rollercoaster ride. It challenges "YOU" as a person, your mental and wellbeing and your coping mechanisms. It is no wonder i hear often from my friends already in the field as 'you gotta keep grinding it and surround yourself with positive friends, and friends who you know you can lean on during these duration of your life.
Lets talk about Week 5 highlights:
Tuesday: 13th October
Physics day! I swear the level of absurdity in the statements he makes during class, is meme-quality.
Here is a collection of what has been said (in the past 5 weeks):
1. University is ALL about Self-Study
2. You should read more Calculus Books
3. You should know English before attending my class
4. GO BACK to High School
5. MCQ is Highschool Level
6. Homework was Easy
7. Exam will be MORE Challenging
8. NO Mock Test. Just Self Study.
Point 6 and 7. Laughable. I take 7 days to workout the homework he sets for us. 'EASY???!!" I certainly think not. At present, I am taking an hour to read ONE chapter, and even after that I am still struggling... *Welps*
Week 6 Highlights:
Week 6 is a 4 day week! Woohoo! Classes on Friday were cancelled due to some Sports Event.
Short-term Yays, but Long-term.... (Hell no's). This is cause, replacement classes are sure to come bite us back! Gross.
Monday 19th October:
I had my first Test in Med school! And even more so, an Online Med School Test. Let me emphasize "ONLINE."
The pandemic definitely does not workout in favours of a student in tertiary education. It 100% was a totally different setup, and challenge to self accustomed to. The test I had was for Chinese. We had 2 parts in the exam.
Part 1: MCQ (Single and Multiple Choice)
Part 2: Short answer (This is where you have to write your answers on a paper/ ipad, Screenshot/ take a pic and Upload it)
Firstly, let me tell you about the set up. We were given instructions by our lecturer to ensure we have none of our notes surrounding us, all tabs are close (except the Platform portal) where the test is held, and to have our Phone Video Camera and Audio switched on at all times, during the duration of the test. Additionally, we had spent about 10 mins at the start, prior to the test for video and soundcheck. Our Professor ensured all 27 of us had our camera angles set up in a particular way, where is able to see BOTH our screens and our hands. Obvious reason being, NO CHEATING.
The test was itself alright, was not too overwhelmingly hard and alright to do. The submission idea itself was definitely a challenge for most due to the network issues and the slow reaction of the platform. However, I can see the perspective of it being absolutely necessary for students to have a written portion, ESPECIALLY in a language course. Gotta assure EVERYONE can read and write!
What i did not expect was, how quick she gave back the marks for PART 1 of our MCQ tho. She marked it and gave us our marks within 4 hours of our test. Our teacher is organised, structured and has SPEEDY hands.
Overall: Hoping I did as well as I did in part 2, as I did for Part 1
Tuesday 20th October:
Physics is literally the most dreaded subject. It makes my Tuesday mentally taxing and tiring.
I hate Tuesdays. Period.
Friday 23rd October
NO classes! And Spending half my day watching Organic Chem Tutor walk me through Physics on Simple Harmonics as well as Simple Pendulums; that was the productive part of my day.
As always, never forgetting to treat yourself with a nice break, I treated myself with Game Time on Genshin Impact.
(PS: I am sick of getting the Barbara character pulls... GIVE me someone new.. PLEASE)
How was your week?
Melbournians got the green light to travel 25km out from our homes this week, since our lockdown in March. BIG YAY!
